Microsoft Exchange
MS Exchange makes it possible to send and receive E-mail messages with other Exchange and Internet Mail users. iXware adds Fax and Text Message functionality for Exchange users. Exchange does not facilitate this functionality. iXware adds these possibilities through a SMTP Gateway.
The iXware Workspace offers users the same functionality as conventional E-mail clients, in addition to a number of specific iXware features. The iXware Workspace is not only a user interface but can also be used by the system administrator as a tool to manage and administrate the iXware platform. Some available functionalities for the Workspace are listed below:
iXware does not make use of a connector to add the functionality to Exchange. Instead, the iXware SMTP Gateway connects to the Exchange platform by making use of the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). This protocol is used for virtually all E-mail Exchange through the internet and can therefore be called a true standard. iXware makes use of the standard Exchange SMTP connector to connect to the Exchange platform.
The iXware Gateway simply accepts and sends messages from Exchange with a Fax or Text Message destination. Receiving Fax and Text Messages are, of course, also possible. The iXware Gateway will distribute incoming messages through the Exchange server and deliver them to the correct user.
The iXware SMTP Gateway allows you to add extra communication tools, such as Fax and Text Messages, to the Exchange mail client. This is possible without having to install new software or making complex modifications to the Exchange server.
Using the iXware SMTP Gateway creates several interesting benefits for users and system administrators.
It is easy for the Exchange administrator to create the user settings for the iXware Fax and Text Message services within the Exchange administrator tool. This easy to use approach ensures single user administration. The Exchange mail user can send and receive Fax and Text Messages with the existing interface with which he/she is comfortable. The iXware SMTP Gateway facilitates this ease of use.
MS Outlook forms are available for sending Fax and Text Messages. With these forms, sending Text and Fax messages becomes as easy as sending an E-mail. The forms also make it possible to use both the Outlook and Exchange address books.
For sending Fax messages, an iXware fax printer is also available. After receiving a print command, the iXware fax printer will open the Exchange client and create a new message, with the printed document as an attachment in a Fax format (TIFF).
