Lotus Notes Gateway
Lotus Notes allows for the exchange of E-mail messages with other Notes and Internet Mail users. Lotus Notes does not include text messaging or Fax functionality. iXware adds this functionality by making use of an SMTP Gateway. The iXware SMTP Gateway for Lotus Notes connects to Lotus Notes through the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP). Virtually all E-mail traffic on the internet is exchanged with this protocol, making it a true standard.
The iXware Gateway simply accepts and sends messages from Lotus Notes with a Fax or Text Message destination address. Receiving Fax and Test Messages is, of course, also possible. The iXware Gateway will distribute incoming Fax and Text Messages through Lotus Notes to the correct Lotus Notes user.
The iXware SMTP Gateway makes it possible to add communication tools, such as Fax and Text Messaging, to the Lotus Notes mail client. This can be achieved without having to install software or making complex modifications to the Lotus Notes server. Using the iXware SMTP Gateway creates several interesting benefits for users and system administrators.
It is easy for the Lotus Notes administrator to create the user settings for the iXware Fax and Text Messaging services within the Notes administrator tool. This easy to use approach ensures single user administration. The Lotus Notes mail user can send and receive Fax and Text Messages with the existing interface with which he/she is familiar. The iXware SMTP Gateway facilitates this ease of use. For optimal integration of iXware functionality, special Lotus Notes templates have been developed.
The iXware SMTP Gateway makes it possible to deliver incoming Fax and Text Messages to the user through the Notes Address Book. For a fax, the “Fax Phone” field can be used, and a "Cell Phone" can be used for Text Messages. Based on the corresponding data base records the message will be delivered to, for example, the “Internet Address.” In addition, it is possible to use other data base records and/or fields with the iXware SMTP Gateway template. All that is required is installation of the template on the Lotus Notes server.
An iXware Mail Extension template is available for the Lotus Notes Mail users. The template includes, i.e., Fax and Text Messaging forms that make it possible to use the Lotus Notes Address Book to select a destination address for Fax and Text Messages. This Extension can be added to the user mail database.
For sending Fax messages, an iXware fax printer is also available. After receiving a print command, the iXware fax printer will open the exchange client and create a new message, with the printed document as an attachment in a Fax format (TIFF).
